Microsoft's YouTube competitor, Soapbox on MSN Video, is in private beta. I am on the invite list and will give it a spin when the beta program will expand shortly.
Soapbox is Microsoft's user-generated video site, not to be confused with the company's professional video site, MSN Video. For its part, Soapbox is a solid video sharing service, incorporating all the Web 2.0 features a modern site should have.
Rob Bennett, general manager of entertainment and video services at Microsoft, said MSN's 465 million visitors a month worldwide would help it give YouTube a run for its money, despite the start-up's established leadership.
"It's early in the market," he said. "There is no question they (YouTube) have an early lead...(but) there is still a lot of room for growth with innovation and competition," Bennett said.
*Soapbox on MSN Video is currently an invitation
only beta – new invitations will be send out as MS
expand access to the Soapbox beta over the
coming weeks and months.
